'We should not mention' - Thomas Tuchel makes worrying Liverpool and Man City admission

Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel was not happy with his side's performance in their pre-season defeat to Arsenal on Saturday.

The London club were beaten 4-0 by their rivals in Orlando to end their pre-season tour of the United States. Tuchel conceded he 'isn't sure' his side will be ready for when the new season kicks off next month - and refused to be drawn into talk of competing with the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City.

Chelsea have made two big signings already this summer with the additions of Kalidou Koulibaly and Raheem Sterling, they're also closing in on a deal for Jules Kounde. But, they've also lost a number of players including Andreas Christensen, Antonio Rudiger and Romelu Lukaku has left on loan.

Tuchel admitted post-matc h: "I'm far from relaxed. I think we deserved to lose – which is fair enough – because we were simply not good enough. We were absolutely not competitive. The worrying part is the level of commitment, physically and mentally, for this match was not the same, it was far higher for Arsenal than us.

"I can not guarantee (they will be ready for the new season). I saw today a team in Arsenal who are mentally committed to an idea of playing, a level of exhaustion, a level of physical commitment that we could not match."

When asked about Liverpool and Manchester City, the Chelsea boss added: "Given our last two weeks, our game today, we should not mention the two teams in front of us.

"We got absolutely beaten by a team that does not play Champions League football next season and finished behind us. But at the moment, they seem far ahead of us."

Liverpool are deep into their own pre-season schedule having completed their tour of the far east. They left following a defeat to Manchester United in their opening game and a win over Crystal Palace in Singapore. They beat RB Leipzig earlier this week and are now on their week long training camp in Austria before they face RB Salzburg next week.
