Manchester United fans are urging their club to go in for PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo after the Dutchman produced another fine performance for this team.
He was ultimately on the wrong side of a 4-2 scoreline to Groningen on Saturday but that is not to say the 23-year-old had a bad outing. In fact, Gakpo created a total of 11 chances in the match - no player has made more in an Eredivisie match since WhoScored.com started collecting data for the league in 2013/14.
The Netherlands international is in scintillating form this season, having scored 13 goals and provided 13 assists in 20 games. Gakpo had held talks with Erik ten Hag over a potential move to United in the summer before the Reds boss finalised Antony’s £85m arrival.

“I was close to leaving, I spoke to Erik ten Hag a few times at Manchester United,” the player said last week. “In the end the deal didn’t go through, which was a shame, for me and my development, and because Manchester United is one of the biggest clubs in the world.
“But also for PSV, because to transfer a player to Manchester United is a good thing for the club. It ended about a week before the end of the transfer window and in that week I had to decide if I would go to Leeds or Southampton. In the end I stayed, but it was a stressful period.”
Gakpo has not let that affect his upwards career trajectory though, and is set to play in Qatar at next month’s World Cup. United fans on Twitter are hoping that their club can tie up a deal in the new year, despite the winger having three-and-a-half years left on his deal.
@AliceTalksFooty: I know we need a ST the most... but with the amount of goals this team is lacking it would be stupid to miss out on Gakpo in Jan especially considering both manager and player want move.
@ManUtdMania_: At this rate I would be buying Cody Gakpo and replacing Sancho.
@una_Dollar: We need Gakpo in January, it's nice that he can also play as a no 9.
@theshawe: Gakpo has so much potential as a striker! Would love to see it at United. I see him as more competition for Marcus [Rashford] and push that [Jadon] Sancho and Antony competition.
@KickingDevils: Bring Gakpo in this January! Work on the deal now!
