Albion Rovers boss Brian Reid insists his side must take something from a double-header with League Two leaders Kelty Hearts as they bid to climb back out of relegation trouble.
The Coatbridge side are sitting ninth in the table, seven points above basement side Cowdenbeath, as they head into a clash at New Central Park against a Kelty Hearts team that have won their last three games in a row. Rovers then host Kevin Thomson’s men next Wednesday.
Reid says Rovers must take heart from their performance in Saturday’s 1-0 defeat at home to Edinburgh City, even if a controversial last-gasp penalty denied them a point, with Ryan Shanley netting three minutes into stoppage time.
“We’re in a position now where we have to take points, so we’ve got to go and believe in ourselves,” said Reid.
“If we play the right way, we’re certainly capable.
“We gave them a fright up there at Kelty until we made some really poor mistakes and ended up losing.
“We were well in the game up until half-time, then we shot ourselves in the foot with two really poor goals, gifts from individual mistakes.
“On our day, if we defend properly and create chances, we’re capable.”
Reid says his side deserved at least a point from Saturday’s game.
“Talk about ‘smash and grab’ – I was disappointed because the way we played we deserved to win the game, let along coming away with nothing.
“I think they had one shot on target, but then they got a penalty and scored.
“It’s a tough one to take, and it’s probably the worst I’ve felt, in terms of results.
“The players didn’t deserve that. They played well and deserved to win. The only down-side is that they maybe weren’t clinical in putting ball into the net when they’ve had good chances.
“But their goalkeeper has pulled off some wonder-saves as well and kept them in it.
“Unfortunately we’ve come away with nothing, and to lose a goal in injury time is even more sickening, because it doesn’t even give them a chance to get something back.
“To say it was a disappointing day is an understatement.”
