'We moved to Manchester and bought our dream city centre penthouse for £690k - it would cost millions in London'

It's no secret that location plays a huge part in house prices across the UK. When looking at the stark difference in what homes you can buy for the same cost up and down the country - the north-south divide becomes all the more apparent.

Although we've seen the average price of a property soar across Greater Manchester in recent years, the north west region is still considered a much more affordable place to buy a home than London. And that is exactly what Simon Mayhew, 37, and his partner Paul discovered after moving from the capital city to buy their dream duplex penthouse in Manchester last year.

Simon spoke to us as part of our Where I Live series, where each week we hear from a different homeowner in the north west to find out about their home buying journey, the costs involved as well as giving our readers a sneak peak inside their home.
