It doesn't seem that any powersports manufacturer got out of 2024 on a positive note. Even the biggest names in the niche, like BRP's Can-Am and Polaris, took massive hits. But, Arctic Cat, which is owned by Textron's industrial segment, Textron Specialized Vehicles (TVS), hasn't gotten out alive.
Textron, Inc. recently filed an 8-K form with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC). Publicly traded companies are required to file an 8-k to announce significant or "material" events that shareholders need to know.
At the heart of this filing is the following, "The consumer end market demand for powersports products continues to remain soft. As a result, and in conjunction with its annual operating plan process, TSV has begun to pause production of its powersports products as Textron’s management reviews strategic alternatives for the business. Upon completion of limited production runs to satisfy customer commitments, production of TSV’s powersports products will be paused indefinitely in the first half of 2025."
So, it would seem that if you've purchased an Arctic Cat product and are waiting to take delivery, you'll get it, and according to an Arctic Cat spokesperson, you'll continue to receive aftermarket support too:
"Arctic Cat remains open for business with respect to selling current inventory and providing aftermarket support and services to our existing installed customer base. Our sales organization, customer service teams, aftermarket distribution centers, and other functions are ready to assist our dealers and loyal customers. We are committed to providing the service and support to keep our thousands of loyal customers riding and enjoying Arctic Cat vehicles."
The real question is if Arctic Cat gets put up for sale by Textron who, if anyone, will buy the brand and its assets? Yamaha, one of the oldest names in the sled game, recently pulled out of the industry. So, it's difficult to see what company would be interested in getting involved in the powersports game right now, particularly the snowmobile niche.
