'We make Smith and Kohli...': Rohit Sharma and David Warner share thoughts on being trailblazing openers

NEW DELHI: Swashbuckling openers Rohit Sharma and David Warner have had many memorable duels against each other be it in international cricket or the IPL.

Both Rohit and Warner have stellar careers as openers against the new ball when the bowlers are fresh and steaming in to hurl deliveries at full pace.

Both Rohit and Warner have great records of setting the tempo for the rest of the batsmen later in the order to build on blazing starts.

In a video going viral after the repeated failures of Steve Smith as a Test opener, Rohit and Warner can be seen talking on Aaj Tak, sharing their thoughts on opening the batting.

The clip starts with Warner saying, "There was someone I said before something to Virat, 'We're no Smith and Kohli', but at the end of the day, we make Smith and Kohli because we take the shine off the ball," at which both Warner and Rohit break into a laughter.

"Absolutely," Rohit says, agreeing with Warner.

"It's the hardest job in the world. It's like being President or Prime Minister, you opening the batting, you're like guinea pigs," Warner continues.

Agreeing with Warner, Rohit says, "Once someone told me that the reason you have scored double hundreds is because you open the batting. But they don't understand what happens with it. When the conditions are tough, when you face all these guys who bowl 150 plus."

In the 8 innings he has opened in Test cricket, Steve Smith has scored 171 runs at an average of 28.5.
