Tesco has come in for criticism in recent days to do with its Clubcard system. Bosses at the supermarket chain announced some Clubcard customers would no longer receive paper vouchers and statement by post.
The supermarket said customers would instead get their points on email. Then a shopper spoke out over Tesco's Clubcard pricing structure, with the supermarket questioned over why Tesco has different prices for Clubcard and non-Clubcard customers.
And StokeonTrentLive decided to put Clubcard deals to the test. Their reporter visited its Longton store and picked 20 essential items typical in a weekly shop - and the results were staggering.
The bill without a Clubcard came to £100.54. The bill for the same items - with a Clubcard - came to just £71.07. It is free to register for a Tesco Clubcard - and many shoppers swear by them.
Will Collis, aged 26, from Stone, said: "Especially on the higher-priced items, the Clubcard reductions can save a huge chunk. It’s something I always keep an eye out for when doing a shop." Cathy Hawley, aged 26, from Dresden, said: "I've had one for a few years, it's good. It knocks a few quid off."
Tesco has defended its most recent Clubcard pricing structure. A Tesco spokesman said: “Through Clubcard Prices, we are giving more than 20 million customers access to thousands of exclusive deals on everything from everyday staples like fruit and veg to treats like prosecco and ice-cream.
“It’s easy and free to sign up, and customers can register on the Tesco Grocery & Clubcard app, on the website, or in store to start saving straight away.”
