'We love it': Lions embrace early season AFL challenges

Jarrod Berry expects Brisbane to lean into their early season AFL adversity, admitting the two-time defending premiers love adopting the backs-to-the-wall mentality.

The Lions let a 26-point lead slip in a five-point Opening Round loss to the impressive Western Bulldogs at the Gabba on Saturday.

Co-captain Hugh McCluggage (calf) was an early casualty and will miss Saturday's date with the Swans in Sydney while Harris Andrews, Darcy Gardiner and Zac Bailey were all reported.

Bailey has accepted a one-game ban while Andrews and Gardiner will contest their charges.

Berry, who missed last year's grand final win with a shoulder injury, isn't fazed even after the Swans' impressive first-up win against Carlton.

"To be honest it's where we love it, we love being in this sort of circumstance, backs against the wall type of thing," he said on Tuesday.

"It just makes our trademarks shine. Built off brotherhood and resilience and we've done that over 10 years.

"It's solid, and the foundations are what you fall back on."

Berry was critical of the Lions' team defence against the Bulldogs, who kicked seven final-quarter goals as the contest opened up.

"We let that one slip a bit, but all credit to the Dogs, they came up and came after us," he said.

"You see a guy half a metre off and that's all you need in today's game.

"As fans you can see the game's quite a bit quicker so we need to be a bit more connected.

"It's great for the spectacle, but as a player it's going to take a bit of getting used to."

A positive was the form of veteran small forward Charlie Cameron, who kicked four goals and added two direct goal assists and five tackles.

"I gave him a good pump up after the game," Berry said of the 31-year-old, who battled to make an impact last year before kicking four goals in the grand final.

"His forward pressure ... that's the stuff we value, love and celebrate.

"Charlie definitely is back and it's awesome to hear (goal celebration song, Take Me Home) Country Roads get played more often at the Gabba."
