Jessica says to paint everything, including the walls, doors, trims, and even the ceilings in the same shade. She adds that the texture variations of the panels will elevate the design style. Tama Bell calls the method of using one color in a completely paneled room ‘color drenching’ and says that it can make the space feel larger. She says this technique is especially effective in a powder bath, laundry room, or mud room space.
Jessica even has a recommendation for those without paneled walls who want to get the look. She suggests ‘you can use a painter’s tape to achieve the effect of paneling through the use of precise lines: start by painting the base color of your choosing, and then apply the tape to create 1/4” vertical stripes every six inches or so (based on the size of your wall). This clever technique will give the illusion of vertical paneling, adding a touch of sophistication to your space.’
