'We just want to keep you safe' - Firefighter's plea to stop abuse after he's attacked while putting out blaze

A firefighter has called for help from parents to stop mindless abuse after he was attacked with a rock while putting out a blaze in Sunderland.

Nathan Gray is a firefighter at Tyne and Wear Fire and Rescue Service's (TWFRS) Farringdon Community Fire Station in Sunderland and was recently attacked for just doing his job. Nathan and his crew were called to the Old Police Station in Farringdon to deal with a deliberate secondary fire.

After putting out the fire, they were readying the fire appliance for further deployment and debriefing with the police when Nathan was attacked. The 40-year-old from Seaham noticed someone out the second-floor window throw something at him – striking him on the shoulder.
