'We had solutions and threw them away' - Man United fans react to Ralf Rangnick transfer advice

Manchester United fans are further bemoaning the state of their club after it emerged Ralf Rangnick recommended four transfer targets before he left the club – with some big names included.

Rangnick took over as United’s interim manager following the sacking of Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was due to take up a two-year consultancy role with the club. His association with the club ended in the summer, with the 64-year-old instead becoming Austria’s national team manager.

Before he left he made a number of transfer recommendations to the United board. RB Leipzig duo Josko Gvardiol and Konrad Laimer were both on the list, with Rangnick regarding the former as a 'must-buy'.

Rangnick also advised the club to scout Christopher Nkunku, who took the Bundesliga by storm last season. However, the France international signed a new contract at Leipzig earlier in the summer.

United were also urged to try and negotiate a deal for Erling Haaland, despite their chances of signing him being remote. Rangnick also flagged up Julian Alvarez as a possible attacking option before Manchester City snapped him up from River Plate.

Rangnick’s reputation had become severely damaged by the end of his spell at United, although he wasn’t helped by a lack of signings despite urging the club to recruit players. And now his final act at the club has been revealed, some fans look to be reconsidering their view on the former interim boss.

News of Rangnick’s recommendations hasn't come at a good time for United. Fans have ridiculed the club’s attempts to sign Marko Arnautovic and Adrien Rabiot this week, despite their chase of the former now having ended.

Sunday’s loss to Brighton once again exposed many of the problems Rangnick faced during his time in charge. The former interim boss suggested the squad required a complete overhaul, with 10 new players needed.
