'We had a lot of negatives' - Munster's Stephen Larkham on moving on from Glasgow defeat

Stephen Larkham insists Munster have drawn a line in the sand after a third away defeat of the season as they look to secure a vital win on their Thomond Park return tonight (7.35pm).

The Reds' two-point defeat in a close-fought encounter in Glasgow last week leaves Johann van Graan's side in fifth place - five points behind tonight's opponents Edinburgh, but with a game in hand.

Larkham admits the 13-11 defeat in Scotstoun left a bitter taste as much of the province's difficulties were self-inflicted, and the assistant boss is looking for a swift improvement against similar-styled opposition.

"We have been quite disappointed with those three away losses," said Larkham.

"It's pretty much move on, go through our review process and there were a lot of negatives - we had a lot of negatives.

"So, we have drawn a line under those, we have focussed heavily on our game this week.

"It’s unusual we get Glasgow one week, Edinburgh the next and they are very similar teams.

"They have both had pretty good success this year and we have probably seen that carry over into the Scottish performances, although not on the weekend.

"They are playing similar footie, their stats are very similar in terms of breakdown pressure and good defence.

"So it is draw a line in the sand in terms of let that one go and make sure we don’t make those mistakes again."

Dave Kilcoyne makes his 200th appearance for the province tonight - the 12th Munster player to reach that milestone.

He is one of four changes to the starting line-up, as the returning international prop scrums down with Diarmuid Barron and Stephen Archer in the front row.

The remaining pack is unchanged with Jean Kleyn and Fineen Wycherley in the engine room and captain Jack O’Donoghue, Chris Cloete and Gavin Coombes across the back row.

The backline sees the introduction of Craig Casey, Dan Goggin, and Calvin Nash. Casey returns from international camp to link up with Ben Healy in the half backs, while Goggin joins Chris Farrell in midfield.

Niall Scannell returns from shoulder injury to be named in the replacements.

Larkham is predicting a much-improved display back on home turf, even with weather conditions expected to make things difficult for the two sides.

"It's good to be back home," he said.

"We have been away for a while, including the bonus point win in Zebre and then last week, and it’s going to be good to play in front of a full Thomond Park.

"And I think that helps. The opportunity to play at home means we don’t have to travel, means that we get really good support.

"The ground is going to be familiar, the weather is going to be tricky from what we are seeing at the moment, which is what we like.

"I think there's nothing better from our perspective than to play in rain and torrential wind and a packed house and to try to get the opposition to come up here and play in those conditions."

Tickets will be available on Ticketmaster.ie up until kick off and the ticket office at Thomond Park will be open from 10am today, where card payments only will be accepted.
