"We had a brotherly bust-up that went too far": The View apologise to fans following on-stage fight at Manchester gig

Indie rockers The View have issued an apology to fans after a sold-out gig in Manchester was abandoned on Wednesday night after the band got into a huge bust-up on stage.

The band said they "had a brotherly bust-up that went too far" at their sold out Deaf Institute show, but also added they couldn't wait to be touring again in November and during the upcoming festival season.

Footage showing lead singer Kyle Falconer throwing a punch at bass player Kieren Webster as shouting 'I'll f****** kill you', first emerged on Thursday. The person who shared the footage wrote: "When you've waited for the comeback gig for years and then halfway through the lead singer batters the bassist! Rock N Roll."

The Twitter user then explained that the lead singer came back on stage for one more song. Holding an acoustic guitar, Falconer told the audience: "Sorry, if you want Kieren [Webster] can come and finish the set. The problem with this band is that he wants to sing the songs and he can't."

The gig-goer took the footage was immediately hit with questions as one person asked how long they played for, prompting the fan to respond: "Half a set." Others on Twitter described the bust-up as "pure chaos", while another wrote: "They'd just finished Skag Trendy and then Kyle pushed Kieren in the back. He then threw the bass down and started walloping him. All a bit bizarre."

Responding to the events that unfolded on Wednesday night, the band shared a tweet which read: "Sorry to the fans at our show in Manchester and everywhere else that we've upset - we had a brotherly bust-up that went too far, and we cannae wait to get back to touring in November and throughout the festival season with yous lot.

"Our show at @OsloHackney has been cancelled, but all yer tickets will be valid for our show at @ScalaLondon in December. Check yer emails for details #TVAOF."

A number of people quickly commented on the post, with some finding the whole debacle humorous, while others asked whether it was an apology from the frontman himself. One wrote: "Just a brotherly boot to the head, it happens."

Another added: "Nothing quite like a wee brotherly upper cut or a brotherly kick in the face!"

Some were more annoyed than others by the incident through, with one person writing: "Christ. They've utterly shafted tons of fans who've waited years to see them, all because 2 of them couldn't behave, and this is the apology they've given. Outstanding."

In a slightly more scathing take, on Twitter user wrote: "we cannae wait to get back to punching each other onstage" ... you absolute wallopers. Someone needs to wind his neck in and stop being such a prat. To be fair, this is the most publicity you've had in your entire lives. I forgot you guys even existed until yesterday."

Some though were happy to read the apology, with one person adding: "S*** happens. Onwards and upwards."

Prior to the apology this morning, the band issued an interim statement on social media on Thursday (May 11). It read: "Unfortunately we are having to postpone tonight's London show. Our promoter is working to resolve the situation. Please keep hold of your tickets for now and we will make a further announcement in a few days. Massive apologies to all our fans."

The Deaf Institute hasn't issued a statement on social media about the incident, however Twitter users flooded the comments on a post by the venue, which was shared by in the hours before the gig announcing stage times for the sold-out comeback gig. Many were asking about refunds, while other's asked about ring walks and after show parties.
