'We didn’t take kindly to it' - How Manchester United legend Gary Neville angered Wales at Euro 2016

Former Wales captain Ashley Williams has explained that Manchester United legend Gary Neville angered his team during Euro 2016.

At the time, Neville was providing the role of assistant to Roy Hodgson with the Three Lions at the tournament in France. It was looking bleak for England at halftime that day as Gareth Bale's free-kick gave the Welsh the lead.

However, an inspired double substitution at halftime turned the game in England's favour. First sub, Jamie Vardy scored a scrappy goal to draw the Three Lions level before Daniel Sturridge squeezed a strike home to send fans in France and back home into raptures.

Neville was pictured after Sturridge's late winning goal sprinting down the touchline celebrating and Williams has described how this annoyed the Wales team. Speaking ahead of the two country's clash in Al Rayyan this evening, the former Swansea City man said: "Listen, right, it’s a last minute goal.

"We would have all celebrated a bit but bearing in mind he ( Gary Neville ) was assistant coach at the time he’s gone down to the corner flag (with the players) but the thing we didn’t take kindly to was on the way back to the bench he was giving the players a little bit of (banter). Anyway, it's a massive game today from the start and if the goals go in then there’ll be big celebrations."

Famously in 2016 Wales would have the last laugh, finishing top of the group, reaching the semi-finals and had their own wild celebrations as England were knocked out by Iceland. It would take something special for Wales to be celebrating wildly in Qatar this evening though.

Wales need to win and hope their goal difference and results elsewhere go their way to qualify for the knockout stages. England know that they only need a draw to qualify and that a win will secure top spot in their group.
