Nationwide, Wetherspoon have upped their prices. As some businesses have had no choice to up products by a few pounds or pence, people are noticing the increase in prices at the pub known for being cheap and cheerful. Community reporter Keimae Blake compared Wetherspoon receipts dating back from 2019 to now and the difference is noticeable as she reports…
I promise you, I don’t spend all my time in Wetherspoon but as a former employee there, I’ve had my fair share of mixed grills. The pub is still considered as cheap to many but their prices definitely have increased.
When I go, I love a large breakfast (no beans, of course), a mixed grill or some fish and chips. As many people have noticed an increase in bills, bus fares and food inflation,
2019
Back in 2019, back home during the holidays from uni, I visited the Samuel Hall where a large breakfast was priced at £5.15. Now, a large breakfast is priced at £6.34.
That's a £1.19 increase.
Back in the summer of 2019 during the summer holidays before going back to uni at the Roebuck Inn I was obviously a bit peckish and ordered a 8 inch garlic bread with cheese priced at £3.10 now, if you ever end up ordering the same thing, it’s £4.57.
That’s a £1.47 jump.

2021
In the summer of 2021 at the Roebuck Inn, I ordered a double Koppaberg Premium Gin Strawberry and Lime with lemonade for £3.20 a single Zymurgorium Sweet Violet Liqueur Gin with lemonade for £2.66 and a pint of diet pepsi for £1.89 I have a feeling this was my round with one of my best mates, Jenna.
Now a double Koppaberg Premium Gin Strawberry and Lime is £3.60, a single Sweet Violet Gin with lemonade is actually cheaper at £2.26 and a pint of diet Pepsi is £1.95 - just a 6p increase.
If you go to Wetherspoon often, you may remember when 3 small sharing plates were a tenner. Now, they’re any 3 for £14.24.
In 2021, Halloumi-style fries by themselves were £3.80 and now, they’re £4.73.
2022
In 2022, I must have treated Jenna again as a chicken tikka curry was ordered at the Gooseberry Bush on Peel Street in town. Isn’t she lucky? Believe it or not, I’ve never had a Wetherspoon curry but with a garlic naan, the curry was priced at £7.95. Now, a chicken tikka curry at wetherspoons is £9.03 with a soft drink or £10.43 with an alcoholic drink and to add naan, it’s 43p back in 2022, it was 35p.
I had ordered the fish and chips with garden peas priced at £8.15 now, cod and chips is £9.25 with a soft drink or £10.65 with an alcoholic drink.
A pint of Kopparberg on tap for £3.19 and a medium Merlot for £1.99 was also ordered. Now, Kopparberg on tap shows to be cheaper at £2.26 but a a medium Merlot is £2.37.
