We bought this monster shopping list from special offers only in Tesco, Dunnes and Aldi and saved big off a weekly food shop

The weekly shop is getting to be more expensive than ever with food prices on the rise these days due to inflation.

The cost of groceries has increased by 6.8% since last year, latest figures from the Central Statistics Office show.

But for those who are bargain savvy, there are still some good deals to be got if you are willing to shop around.

We went on a hunt for a very basic weekly shop for two people and only bought things that were on special offers to see how much money we could save.

We shopped in Tesco, Dunnes Stores and Aldi and our total came to €35.49 with an amazing saving of €15.34. This is what we bought:

Breakfast

• Cheerios Multigrain Cereal 540G - €2.24 on Tesco Clubcard Price

• Sqeez Orange Juice Drink 1 litre - €1.00 on Tesco Clubcard Price

Saving: €2.74

Dinner

• Whole Chicken - part of the three for €10.00 deal in Tesco

• Beef Mince 10% - part of the three for €10.00 deal in Tesco

• Pork Chops - part of the three for €10.00 deal in Tesco

• 14 Birds Eye Fish Fingers - half price for €3.05 in Dunnes Stores

• 2 Pepperoni Pizzas - Two pizzas for €3 in Dunnes Stores

Saving: €7.74

Fruit and Vegetables

• 1kg of Potatoes - €0.49 on Tesco Clubcard Price

• Extra Fine Bean 220g - €0.99 on special offer in Aldi

• Flat Mushrooms 250g - €0.49 on special offer in Aldi

• Broccoli - Two veg for €3 in Dunnes Stores

• Carrots 500g - Two veg for €3 in Dunnes Stores

• 6 Granny Smith Apples - €0.99 on special offer in Aldi

Saving: €2.98

Lunch

• Hovis White Bread 750g - €1.25 on Tesco Clubcard Price

• Brady Crumbed Ham 80G - €2.50 on Tesco Clubcard Price

• Fresh mixed leaves - €0.49 in Dunnes Stores

• Pasta 500g - Two for €3.00 deal in Tesco

• Pasta sauce - Two for €3.00 deal in Tesco

Saving: €1.13

Snacks

• 6-pack of Tayto Cheese and Onion Crisps - €2.00 in Dunnes Stores

• Toffypops biscuits - €1.00 in Dunnes Stores

Saving: €0.75

There were some basic essential items like milk and eggs that were not on special offer so we could not include them in our list.

The biggest savings were made on the meat products with the three for €10 deal on meat in Tesco as well as fish fingers for half price in Dunnes Stores.

The Tesco Clubcard Price also made us significant savings especially on the Cheerios breakfast cereal which was originally priced at €4.49, down to €2.24.

Overall total savings: €15.34
