We bought Prime juice in Edinburgh for ten quid to see if it's worth the hype

This week we discovered that a local Edinburgh dessert shop was stocking Prime Juice at ten quid a bottle and popped in to purchase a bottle and see if it is really worth the hype.

Last month when Aldi got the popular juice in stock, we went along to try and get a bottle but had no chance as the shelves had been cleared by the time we got there.

So we were excited to see Sweet Paradice on Comiston Road has picked up on the trend and now ships the natural health drink from America to meet customers' demands.

On Friday, January 20, we headed down to the Morningside store to purchase a bottle. They had most of the flavours in stock as well as cans of Prime but the prices are steep.

We bought two bottles of the viral sensation juice for a whopping £18 choosing one meta moon flavour and the popular ice pop flavour to see what all the fuss is about.

Speaking to the owners, they explained that the price reflects shipping costs from ordering the juice in from the States which comes with a hefty price tag and shipping fees.

It is basically impossible to find the juice anywhere in the capital and to find it in Asda or Aldi at a cheaper price takes some skill - possibly getting up early enough to be first in the shop or have some inside knowledge about when it gets stocked.

Kids have been getting the juice for Christmas, customers have fought over bottles of prime and some people have paid extraordinary prices to get their hands on a bottle.

Sitting in the car we opened the juice and took a sip which felt very underwhelming. I wasn't expecting to taste the stars or even gain superhuman powers from the drink but for the ludicrous hype surrounding it, I thought I might be slightly more impressed.

The sports drink tastes like a cheap sports drink you can get for under a pound in most good newsagents. It is overly sweet, has a chemical flavour and just tastes like your average sweetener-laced drink.

I may be about ten years too old to understand the craze but I can say it definitely is not worth the hype or the crazy price tag.

The good news is, if you are in Edinburgh and desperate to try the drink you can find a wide variety in stock at Sweet Paradice on Comiston Road with prices ranging from eight to ten pounds a bottle.

The viral Prime drink, created by YouTube stars KSI and Logan Paul, has seen huge demand across the UK since its launch earlier this year.

Prime is marketed as a low-calorie hydration drink that contains no added sugar. It is mostly made up of water, coconut water, vitamins, and minerals. It comes in a wide variety of flavours but is not an energy drink as it does not contain caffeine.

While Prime is seen as a better alternative to other hydration drinks as it has no added sugar, it does contain artificial sweeteners and preservatives.

YouTube stars and former boxing rivals KSI and Logan Paul say on the official website that they came together “to create a fantastic hydration drink that can fuel any lifestyle”.

Do you think its worth the hype? Let us know in the comments.
