It is one of the most talked about restaurants in Wales at the moment. The sight of huge burgers with towering patties often shared online has often left many mouths watering.
Those behind the restaurant, which is based in both Newport and Port Talbot, profess to have turned burger making into an art form. A bold claim indeed. And while they've bagged tons of positive reviews, the proof is in the pudding as they say. So, before you can say "cheat meal", I went on their website and booked a table to see if they hype was justified.
So first of all, getting there was easy. Slap bang in the middle of Port Talbot's Commercial Road in a black and white coloured building. Once inside it was far more colourful. You're greeted with a huge 'Burger Boyz' mural painted on its walls along with a neon burger sign which some Instagram addicts might appreciate. But the cool surroundings play second fiddle to the real star attraction at the venue, and that's the food itself. Get stories like this straight to your inbox with our newsletters.

The menu is split into four sections - with smash burgers, fries, bits on the side and the cheese corner. The burgers range from £9 to £6.50 - but you can decide whether you want to make your burger a single, double, or triple, with £3 extra per patty added. There's a range of options on offer, including, the Angry Chuck, made up of a patty, Mexican cheese, caramelised onions and chilli jam (£9), the Chuck Norris, made up of a patty, American cheese, caramelised onions, crispy bacon and big up sauce (£9), the OG classic, which includes a patty, American cheese, pickles, crispy onions, tomato sauce and mustard (£8) or the simple one, which includes a patty and American cheese (£6.50).
On the side, you can orders seasoned fries for £3, BBQ crispy chicken fries for £8, buffalo crispy chicken fries for £8, or Nacho cheese loaded fries for £6.50. There's also the choice of ordering halloumi fries for £5, mozzarella sticks for £4, hot nacho dipping cheese for £3.50 or buttermilk chicken tenders for £7. Fans of Tiny Rebel will also be pleased to see three of their beers available on draft. with Clwb Tropicana (£5.50), Electric Boogaloo or 313 Craft Lager available (£5). Soft drinks cost £2, with coke, Pepsi max, Fanta lemon, Lilt and Cherry Coke on offer.
I decided to go for one of the more unusual options on the menu, the Brian Griffin made up of a patty, American cheese, crispy bacon, peanut butter and chilli jam (£9). My dining partner opted for the Baconator, filled with a patty, American cheese, bacon jam, crispy bacon and frazzles (£9.50). Yes, frazzles, the classic crisps that your mum used to give you to take to school in your lunchbox. A sign of a good meal is usually when the table is reduced to silence, and it was no different here. Whilst we only went for the two patty option burgers instead of the three, it was still more than enough. The burgers are big, tender and juicy, and will definitely leave you in a food coma by the end of it.
But if that wasn't enough, there's a challenge on offer at the restaurant to challenge even the heartiest of appetites. The restaurant has challenges, including The Beast - eight patties and 24 slices of cheese, The Norris - 1.5kg of beef, 1kg of chips, 500g of chicken and eight Halloumi fries, along with Daddy Cool's nil by mouth hot wings, which you have ten minutes to eat. The reward for a successful attempt? Your name immortalised on a blackboard or your face on its Wall of Fame. One of social media's most popular "professional eaters", Randy Santel recently visited the restaurant to take on The Norris Challenge, and he devoured every last bite of the huge dinner - finishing the challenge in just 33 minutes and 40 seconds.
Of course, for mere mortals, the main menu is quite enough. The food is amazing and it is easy to see why the restaurant has gained such a great reputation in a matter of years. It is no stroke of luck that is is receiving the hype that it is, and that is down to its freshly prepared food, which, for a gourmet burger restaurant, is quite affordable in price compared to some. It has friendly and helpful staff, nice decor, fun food challenges and a good atmosphere. Burger Boyz claims to have turned burger making into an art form, and I can confirm it is the Rembrandt of its field.
