We asked people if they'll still wear masks in Wales and this is what they said

People in Wales were asked if they'll continue to wear a mask when the rule is binned in Wales, and opinions are pretty divided. It's been confirmed that people will no longer have to wear masks in shops or on public transport in Wales from Monday, but they will still be needed in hospitals and health care settings.

The Welsh Government has decided not to relax all restrictions as cases continue to rise in Wales as it had hoped to do. The legal requirement to self-isolate is being scrapped and instead people will be asked to stay inside if they test positive, but it is no longer going to be the law. Businesses will still be asked to complete risk assessments.

But, nearly two years on from when the coronavirus pandemic began, do people think it's the right decision? WalesOnline put the question to the public to find out. To get the latest coronavirus news sign up to our Covid daily briefing newsletter here.

Many people said they'll be keeping their masks firmly on for the time being. Carol Yates said: "Yes I will, and I don't care what other people think as I am vulnerable to these viruses. At least I am keeping myself and others safe."

Jacqui Jones added: "Yes. As careful as I have been, someone (possibly unaware that they were Covid positive) passed it on to me a fortnight ago. So, yes, definitely." Meanwhile, Kerry Meaden said: "I will for the time being as I am on immune suppressant injections. Best to be safe."

But a lot of people also thought it was time to ditch the masks. Vanessa Jones said: "No. From my observations, in shops and on buses, most have already given up. Me too - no point as my mask does nothing for me."

Janette Evans added: "No. Now it’s a personal choice my choice is not to, but I respect those who do. I hope they return the respect." Kirsty Kingkade said: "No - haven’t for quite some time now. They made me feel horrid but since I stopped I feel so much better."

There were also people who said it completely depends on the circumstances, as they would feel safer with a mask on in some places. For example, Delyth Street said she will continue to wear a mask "where appropriate." Meanwhile Jennifer Borley said: "In crowded places, yes."
