It turns out we were very close to getting a crossover between Overcompensating and Heated Rivalry, which honestly feels like something that would have healed this wicked world.
While at Obsessed Fest (Prime Video’s immersive fan event in LA), creator Benito Skinner revealed that he tried to bring Heated Rivalry stars Hudson Williams and Robbie G.K. into season two of Overcompensating. Speaking to etalk, Skinner said Williams was too “busy, I think ultimately”, which, while completely reasonable, is still a bit painful to hear.
Robbie G.K., who appeared as Riley in season one, also couldn’t return for similar reasons. Skinner said, “And we tried to bring Riley back, Robbie G.K., who we love so much, who was in season one”, before adding, “but again, those boys are busy, but it’s going to happen. One day there is going to be something”.
So, not a no forever. Just a not right now. Which I will be choosing to take as a promise.
Skinner also noted that scheduling likely played a role, with Heated Rivalry season two set to begin filming in August. “But I’m so excited to see season two for them,” he said. “So like they’re busy, they have to go make their show.”
And like yes, they absolutely do, but that doesn’t mean I’ll stop dreaming of this crossover.
What is the plot of Overcompensating Season 2?
From what we heard at Obsessed Fest, season two is leaning into something a bit more emotional alongside the chaos. The cast confirmed the show will explore themes of grief and death, which I think could tie into Carmen’s (Wally Baram) storyline about dealing with her brother’s death. Skinner also revealed that the show will be dealing with a “sensitive topic” that is “true to a college show”. There are a number of issues that I could see fit into this and I’m interested to see how they tackle one them through a comedic show.
At the same time, the show hasn’t lost its sense of fun. There’s a Spring Break storyline coming, and it apparently involves Carmen in “fairy wings and platforms”, which already feels iconic. That’s also where Zedd will appear as himself, which is not something I had on my bingo card but am fully on board with.
We’re also finally getting a look inside Grace’s (Mary Beth Barone) college room, which feels overdue, and when I asked Skinner what he’s “riding for” this season, he told PEDESTRIAN.TV, “role play”. Make of that what you will.

Who is in the cast of Overcompensating Season 2?
Season two is expanding its world with a mix of new and returning faces. Skinner, Barone, Baram and Rish Shah are returning of course and Connie Britton, Kyle MacLachlan, and Lukas Gage will be reprising their guest roles. Our fave Holmes has also been bumped up to a series regular, so rest assured we will be getting a new array of vocal stims.

As mentioned, Zedd will appear as himself during the Spring Break episode, while Tom Francis joins as Declan Bishop, we even have Australia’s Aisha Dee stepping in as Naomi, and AnnaSophia Robb will play Chels. Patrick Regan is also set to appear in a guest role as Preston.
There’s also more to come from the character George, with Owen Thiele hinting during an ObsessedFest panel that his character may not be as secure as he initially seemed in season one, suggesting a slightly deeper dive into his storyline this time around. And thank GOD, he didn’t get enough screentime last year IMO.

Is there an Overcompensating Season 2 release date?
There’s still no confirmed release date, but the series is currently in production. Based on that, a late 2026 release seems likely, though we’re still waiting on official word from Prime Video.
