Wayne Rooney hit out at “one of the worst decisions I have ever seen” after a controversial refereeing call in the FA Cup fourth-round tie between Aston Villa and Newcastle.

Newcastle emerged victorious at Villa Park - 3-1 - but the game was overshadowed by referee Chris Kavanagh’s decision to award a free kick to Newcastle for a handball committed by Lucas Digne.
