Wayne Rooney shares the moment he knew he wanted to marry Coleen

Wayne Rooney has opened up about the moment he knew he wanted to marry his wife Coleen.

The former Everton star appeared on Good Morning Britain this morning, where he spoke to presenter Ben Shephard about the early days of his relationship with Coleen.

It comes ahead of the release of a brand new documentary about Wayne's life and career, which is set to air on Amazon Prime on Friday.

Wayne will open up about his childhood growing up in Croxteth in the one off film, and the pressure of playing for Manchester United.

Speaking about his marriage on GMB today, Wayne said: "I knew from a young age that I wanted to marry her, I told her when I was about 12.

"There was something about her which I just adored."

Coleen was 12 when she met Wayne at school, 16 when they started dating and they have now been married for more than 13 years.

After they first got together, Wayne admitted he would write poetry for Coleen in an attempt to woo her.

He said: “I like writing poems and when we’d go to bed, I’d leave one on the breakfast table for her for when she wakes up.”

Wayne also spoke about his binge drinking and his marriage woes with Coleen over the years.

Wayne told Ben: “The support obviously I’ve had from Coleen has been immense throughout the years and there’s times where you think, do I deserve that support?”

He continued: "The difficult part of it is that everyone else judging - not me - and that brings a lot of pressure, but judging Coleen for the decisions she makes - does she stay with me, does she leave me?

“I know that was difficult for her and that's not nice from me for putting her in those positions.

“But as I said, I've made mistakes, I think a lot of people make mistakes. It's how you learn from them and recover, and that's what shapes you into a better person."
