Wayne Rooney inflicted further misery on David Beckham, shortly after the latter witnessed Manchester United lose the FA Cup final.
The United great was in the stands at Wembley as Manchester City got the better of their local rivals to lift the famous trophy. Beckham’s reaction to Ilkay Gundogan’s stunning opening goal, inside 12 seconds, was caught by the cameras and Erik ten Hag’s side were unable to complete the turnaround, despite getting back level before half-time.
Away from United, Beckham’s Inter Miami side have been enduring a tough run of form in MLS, which resulted in the club parting ways with his former United teammate Phil Neville earlier this week. However, the team’s winless run extended to five league games on Sunday, courtesy of Rooney’s DC United.

Interim manager Javier Morales took charge of Miami for the first time and was dealt an early setback when Kamal Miller was shown a straight red card after just seven minutes. Miami managed to hold out until 15 minutes from time before Donovan Pines opened the scoring for Rooney’s side.
Former Aston Villa and Liverpool striker Christian Benteke doubled DC.’s lead in the 90th minute to ensure victory, despite a late consolation from Ian Fray. The defeat leaves Inter Miami bottom of the Eastern Conference after 16 games.
Speaking after the game, United legend Rooney praised his team’s performance: “I thought we handled it well because it can be difficult when you’re playing against ten men for long periods of time and you can lose your concentration,” he said. “You can start to get impatient. I was stressing to the players at half-time, ‘keep doing the right things, keep your patience, and we’ll win the game in the last 10 minutes’.
“We conceded a really sloppy goal, which is something for us to learn from, right after we scored, but the most important thing is to come away with all three points, so we’re delighted.”
