Former Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney missed DC United's defeat to New England Revolution due to illness.
Rooney is understood to have been watching from home as his side chucked away a one-goal lead to lose late on against the Revolution. Former Liverpool and Crystal Palace striker Christian Benteke gave Rooney's side the advantage just before half time with a well taken close range effort.
Despite scoring deep into the first half, DC were not able to push home the advantage in the second half. Gustavo Bou equalised for New England shortly after the hour mark to change the complexion of the contest.

With time running out, it looked as though United would be able to hold on for the point but teenager Noel Buck had other ideas. The 17-year-old scored a fortunate deflected effort to silence the home fans and send New England to the top of the Eastern Conference.
Defeat for DC leaves them struggling towards the bottom of the table having won just one of their five matches so far this season. Earlier this week, Rooney was announced as the MLS All-Stars' head coach for their upcoming pre-season clash with Arsenal.
Discussing his appointment, Rooney expressed how much he is looking forward to facing the Gunners. "I’ve had a front-row seat to watch the growth and development of Major League Soccer, first as a player and now as a manager," he said.
"The opportunity to lead the best our league has to offer against a top Premier League club like Arsenal will be a highlight for me personally and an unforgettable experience for our passionate fanbase here in DC."
