Wayne Pivac holds talks over 'player of interest' Regan Grace as Wales excited to watch him play

Wales head coach Wayne Pivac has revealed he has held discussions over ‘player of interest’ Regan Grace.

The speedster’s impending move to rugby union has caused serious excitement among followers of Welsh rugby, and watching intently will be the national boss.

The 25-year-old has enjoyed a stellar career in rugby league, scoring 89 tries in 143 games during a spell with St Helens that spanned six seasons. In that time, he won three Super League titles and a Challenge Cup.

His razor sharp finishing ability led to calls urging him to join the 15-a-side code and he’ll make that switch this summer, heading to Racing 92 in Paris. He is already drawing comparisons to former England winger Jason Robinson, who thrived in both codes.

Pivac revealed he has held discussions over the winger and will be watching his progress with interest.

The Wales boss told reporters in South Africa: “I’ve certainly been involved in discussions around Regan. He’s a player of interest, he’s played rugby union in the past and he’s obviously a bit of a star in rugby league.

“We’re very keen to see how he plays and obviously there is a lot more money in France. The fact that he has crossed to rugby union is a very good thing, I think.”

Grace qualifies to play for England through his English father, but won’t be available to Eddie Jones due to a selection policy that dictates he can only pick players based in the Gallagher Premiership.

The Port Talbot-born flier will be available to Pivac next season. He is not captured by the 60-cap selection policy because he has signed a contract in France prior to being selected in a Wales team. Once he is capped, his next move will have to be to a Welsh region when his deal in Paris expires.
