Wayne Lineker has been criticised for his bizarre tribute to the Queen after she sadly passed away this week.
On Thursday, Buckingham Palace announced that doctors were concerned for the Queen's health and just hours later a statement was shared by the palace to announce the death of Queen Elizabeth II at age 96.
Tributes from celebrities all around the world have come pouring in on social media as the country remember the monarch who served 70 years on the throne. O Beach Ibiza beach club owner Wayne Lineker and his co-owners paid tribute to the Queen with a bizarre performance, writes The Mirror.
A video of the tribute shows a line of bikini-clad women marching through a packed crowd and on to a stage. The women are wearing military-inspired costumes, which mimic the uniforms worn by the King's Guard regiment who wear tall, black bearskin hats.
As they make their way to the stage they stand to attention while 60-year-old Wayne's O Beach co-owner Tony Truman makes a speech to the crowd. He tells party-goers: "Are you all having a great day? We're all having an amazing day today. But, myself and Wayne and other business partners are all British businessmen and we could not let this day go by without speaking about yesterday's events in the UK.
"I think the majority of the crowd here today are from the UK if I'm right, yeah," he asks as the crowd cheers. Tony continues: "It doesn't matter if you're British, Irish, Scottish, Italian, Spanish – wherever you are in the world I think you will all appreciate that one of the greatest, iconic women who's ever lived this world left our planet yesterday. Lets hear it for Queen Elizabeth II!"
The crowd then erupts into a cheer before Tony gestures to a giant inflatable London bus suspended in the air.
"If you look up you'll see the giant red London bus," he says. "You'll see Mary Poppins, you'll see the amazing girls from the stage as Beefeaters [sic] so let's hear it for Queen Elizabeth II," he says incorrectly referring to the uniform costumes the women are wearing. The line up of women then salute as the national anthem is played.
Wayne shared a video of the bizarre moment on his Instagram page, but has since deleted it. However, it was later shared by a Twitter follower leaving social media users shocked.
One user tweeted: "Not Wayne Lineker getting his girls in their thongs and soldier outfits to pay ‘respect’ to the queen L O L". "Nah Wayne Lineker what the hell man," another added.
A third wrote: "Take your weirdest and wildest commemorations of HM The Queen Elizabeth II combined and they still won’t reach the spectacle of this by Wayne Lineker." "It’s Wayne Lineker, he invented “distasteful’," another jibed.
While another user branded the video "so disgusting and disrespectful". Wayne's representatives have been contacted for comment.
