Wales goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey was shown the first red card at this year's World Cup following a wild tackle on Iran forward Mehdi Taremi. The Dragons went into the clash knowing victory would put them in a strong position to qualify for the knockout stages, following their opening match draw against the USA.
But as both teams chased a winner, Rob Page's Welsh were reduced to 10 men, after Hennessey produced a challenge that was reminiscent of Germany goalkeeper Harald Schumacher's lunge on France forward Patrick Battiston during the semi-final of the 1982 World Cup. The sickening tackle saw Battiston lose three teeth and suffer spinal damage but thankfully Taremi was able to continue for Iran. Wales will now have to rely on former Aberdeen goalkeeper Danny Ward in Tuesday night's crucial clash against England.
