With the 2024 NFL draft wrapped up and rookie minicamp right around the corner, it’s time for a way too early 53-man roster prediction for the Denver Broncos.
The biggest talking point this offseason will be at quarterback. This prediction follows Sean Payton’s decision from last year to carry two QBs on the active roster with a third (Ben DiNucci) on the practice squad.
This leaves Jarrett Stidham as the odd man out. Bo Nix is obviously a lock and the Broncos see potential in Zach Wilson. Denver can save $5 million if they cut Stidham this summer.
Part of the reasoning behind carrying two QBs was making it more feasible to carry four running backs because the Broncos have a crowded backfield. This prediction hopes that undrafted rookie Blake Watson makes it to the practice squad. Otherwise, Denver could cut Samaje Perine and save $3 million, but Perine is the team’s best blocking and receiving back.
It was also extremely difficult to make decisions at wide receiver. Any one of Lil’Jordan Humphrey, Jalen Virgil, Brandon Johnson or Devaughn Vele could end up on the 53-man roster, but needing to crunch numbers, the prediction again followed Payton’s lead and slimmed down the WR room. Any of those four notable WR cuts would be top candidates for the practice squad.
So with the QB, RB and WR notes out of the way, here is a very early 53-man roster prediction for the Broncos ahead of spring practices.
