Watford fear they could be without Ismaila Sarr until after this month’s international break due to a hamstring problem.

Sarr suffered the injury during a draw at Manchester United last month and he is definitely out of tonight’s game against Wolves.

Manager Roy Hodgson is also doubtful that the winger could return for Sunday’s trip to Southampton, meaning he would not play for Watford again until April as their game against Everton next week has been postponed due to the Toffees still being in the FA Cup.

Watford desperately need Sarr back as they head to Wolves sat 19th in the Premier League and three points adrift of safety.

“I would say, at the moment, his chances that he will play at the weekend are very, very slim,” said Hodgson.

“So it is going to go beyond that. How far beyond that, I don’t really know. That’s the question. And of course we have got the further complication, as you have with all these players, of international matches coming up.

“We run the risk I suppose that he will just about get technically fit - he won’t be match fit, he won’t really have played for over two weeks - but he could be technically be fit and that will require him to go.

“And I’d be very surprised if he doesn’t want to go back to Senegal after just winning the Africa Cup of Nations. I think we could be hit with that as a double whammy in some ways.

“But we will have to wait and see. He is improving, there is no doubt about that. It is not months. There is no doubt that unless he gets injured with the national team, he will be fit when we play in April.

“I don’t have any doubts about that at all. But for Sunday, I have serious doubts.”
