Popular BBC drama Waterloo Road is set to make its comeback later in 2022 and some famous faces have already been announced as returning to the show. The latest former cast member to spark rumours of a return is Denise Welch.
Denise played French teacher Steph Haydock, who often got herself caught up in a scandal or drama, from 2006 to 2010. Now Denise is a Loose Women panellist and has recently starred in the Channel 4 soap Hollyoaks.
Posting a throwback picture to her Instagram Denise has many fans questioning if she will be returning to Waterloo Road. Denise posted a picture of herself and fellow former cast member Chris Geere, who played music and drama teacher Matt Wilding when they were both in Waterloo Road.

Denise also posted a much more recent photo of the two of them, suggesting they may have been on set filming together for the new series. She captioned the post, "15 yrs later and even more good looking with age. @cwgeere doesn't look bad either!!!"
Fans have been quick to comment that this might be the return of their characters. One person said: "Loved you 2 in Waterloo Road, bring back Steph Haydock and Matt Wilding."
Another added: "Please say you are in the new series" followed by heart emojis. A third added: "Come on Matt and Steph bring them back - two of the best WLR teachers!" and: "We need a Steph Haydock and Matt Wilding reunion."
Denise was not the only member of her family to star in Waterloo Road as her son, Matty Healy, also played a pupil at the school. Matty has since gone on to front the successful band The 1975.
It has already been announced that Kym Marsh will star in the show and that three stars from the original show, Angela Griffin, Adam Thomas, and Katie Griffiths, will be making a return as their previous characters. You can read everything we know about the cast here.
