Waterloo Road fans were left "screaming at the TV" as the BBC show aired a shock death at the end of the first episode.
The BBC programme returned tonight for a run of new episodes after over seven years off air. Angela Griffin returned as Kim Campbell, who is now the headteacher of the school, whilst Adam Thomas and Katie Griffiths returned as Donte and Chlo Charles. The pair are now sending their eldest to Waterloo Road and Chlo wanted to pitch her ideas amid her dream to become a teaching assistant.
However, at the end of tonight's first episode, fans were left stunned when one of the lead characters died.
Earlier in the episode, Chlo had suffered a knock from a car and hit her head. She fell to the ground but seemed ok after with just a bruised wrist, which was quickly bandaged up for her by one of the teachers.
However, there was a shock twist tonight as Chlo was rushed to hospital after suffering with pain in her head. Her daughter called an ambulance and they rushed with her to hospital but it was too late.
The medical professional confirmed that Chlo had passed away, leaving Donte and his kids in tears.
One wrote: " #WaterlooRoad WHY IS SHE DEAD LIKE HOW WHY WHEN?," as another viewer penned on social media: "Omg @WaterlooRoad are you joking, amazing first episode #WaterlooRoad."
A third wrote: "Is anyone else screaming at the tv after the end of the first episode of #WaterlooRoad ? @WaterlooRoad."

Meanwhile, some fans were left fuming after Chlo died in the first episode.
"The hyped up Chlo’s return sooo much, like all over social media for months… and for what? One episode, nah, not happy #WaterlooRoad," one viewer shared, with another writing: "2023 has been ruined as they killed chlo off in the first episode."
Another penned: " #WaterlooRoad you might as well have not brought back chlo and donte so they could’ve had their happy ending," with one viewer writing on Twitter as the scenes aired: "It’s the fact Donte & Chlo have been together for over 15 years and now he’s on his own with Izzy that was born in the og series #WaterlooRoad."
