Water rescue operation after person reported in River Trent

A water rescue operation was sparked after the emergency services were called to reports of a person in the River Trent. The emergency services were initially called to Lady Bay Bridge, near where a person had been reported in the water, just after 10am on Tuesday (October 4).

The operation led crews to search further down the river, near Colwick Hall Hotel in Racecourse Road. Six crews from the Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue Service were in attendance, as well as Nottinghamshire Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service. Two rescue boats were spotted on the river.

A spokesperson for Nottinghamshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to Lady Bay Bridge to reports of a male in the river at 10.07 today (October 4). Crews from London Road, Highfields, Carlton, West Bridgford, Stapleford and Newark were in attendance. Also in attendance were the joint drone, Police and EMAS."

The fire and rescue service left the scene around 12.30pm, handing the incident over to Nottinghamshire Police. On Tuesday afternoon, Chief Inspector Rob Shields said: “This is an ongoing incident and I would encourage the public to avoid the area while emergency services carry out their work to trace the person.”

Nottinghamshire Police remain at the scene of the incident. Follow our live blog for updates.
