World leaders gathered in the Egyptian resort town of Sharm El-Sheikh on Monday for a family photograph at this year’s annual UN climate conference.
The moment came at the start of the COP27 summit where experts have warned that the climate crisis has arrived and the world is not acting fast enough.
Simon Stiell, of the UN Climate Change Secretariat, stated that the crisis is now hitting with devastating floods, warmer temperatures, destroyed crops and homes and more violent weather patterns.
Mr Stiell emphasised that the world was “off track” to halve carbon emissions by 2030 and get to net zero by 2050.
