WATCH: Wishaw kid gets message from Celtic captain after World Book Day costume tribute

A Celtic-daft schoolboy who dressed up as his hero Callum McGregor for World Book Day was delighted to receive a video message from the Hoops captain.

Nine-year-old Joshua McCourt, from Wishaw, had been reading the Scotland midfielder’s autobiography and decided to dress up as his hero for this year’s World Book Day complete with captain’s armband and protective facemask which McGregor wore while recovering from a facial injury.

And the St Aidan’s Primary pupil was delighted to not only be retweeted by the club but also got a short video from the player himself.

In the video McGregor tells Joshua: “I seen your picture mate, it was absolutely brilliant so thanks for that and again thanks for your support.

“All the best wee man.”

Joshua’s mum Stefanie says her son has still to come down from cloud nine .

She said: “He always picks his own costume for World Book Day, last year he was Willy Wonka but he has been reading Callum’s book and was determined that’s who he was going as.

“The hardest thing was trying to get the facemask but we got his picture taken and I was persuaded to tweet Celtic thinking we’d never get a reply and it’s snowballed from there.

“The club retweeted it and then Joshua got sent the video from Callum, a signed copy of the book and a signed strip.

“He’s still absolutely buzzing. Callum’s his best pal now!”

When Joshua is not watching Celtic, he enjoys training and playing for local side Wishaw Wycombe 2013s.

Stefanie added: “Joshua plays right wing-back for Wishaw Wycombe so his favourite player tends to be whoever is playing right back for Celtic.

“He was really disappointed when Juranovic left but I think he’s got over it now!”
