The terrifying moment a power box exploded on a street in Coatbridge was captured on film.
Video footage shows the electrical appliance on Culzean Avenue in the town erupting..
A number of loud bangs and pops are heard on the street at around 7.55pm yesterday.
Bright orange and red sparks were filmed flying at speed from the box as huge pockets of thick, dark smoke spread around nearby homes and into the sky.
Stunned residents captured the incident, which could be seen from streets away.
Locals reported having a power cut shortly after the explosion. It is understood the stretch of road was closed for some time to allow emergency services to investigate.
Police Scotland confirmed that officers were in attendance to assist fire crews.
