Watch: Travis Etienne drops likely TD on fourth down

On the opening drive of the year, Jacksonville Jaguars quarterback Trevor Lawrence missed his former college teammate Travis Etienne on what would’ve been a touchdown.

Later in the first half, it was Etienne who let down Lawrence by dropping a pass that also should’ve been touchdown.

Lawrence ran for six yards on first down, but back-to-back incomplete passes set up the Jaguars with a fourth down on the Washington Commanders’ three-yard line. A short pass to Etienne appeared set up to cut into Washington’s 14-3 lead.

The mistake for Etienne was an unfortunate end to what had been an impressive drive for the 2021 first-round pick. He broke free for a 12-yard rush earlier and got the Jaguars into the red zone with a 23-yard reception.

Jacksonville heavily emphasized the pass in the first half with James Robinson and Etienne combining for just five carries, while Lawrence threw 24 passes.
