REIGNING British GT3 Silver-Am champs Lewis and Stewart Proctor have sharpened their claws for the new season with a four-day test at Portimao in Portugal.
The Aberdeen son-and-father pairing piled on the miles in their Greystone GT McLaren 720S GT3 car, pictured below, ahead of the first round of the British GT at Oulton Park in April.
Lewis was delighted with the progress they made and can’t wait for the action to begin. He said: “It was a really solid test and good to blow the cobwebs off. The team at Greystone GT are great and I can already feel it’s a good dynamic here.
“We had beautiful weather on the first day that gave us a lot of opportunity to try out the new-compound tyre we’ll be running this year, but it rained on the second day. We got Stewart some good mileage in the wet-to-dry conditions so he could feel the crossover point with the tyre.
“That’s going to be important when we have these conditions during the season – and we will, because we race in the UK. I’m very happy with how it’s all gone.”
Meanwhile, Highlander Lewis Williamson will make his British GT debut after signing up with 2 Seas Motorsport. The 32-year-old former Blancpain GT Series Endurance Pro-Am champ will line up with James Cottingham in a Mercedes-AMG GT3.
Williamson, who was born in Dundee before moving to Inverness, is a former McLaren Autosport Young Driver of the Year and has enjoyed success in single-seaters as well as endurance racing.
His CV includes podiums at the Suzuka 10 Hours, Bathurst 12 Hours and Spa 24 Hours. Isa Al Khalifa, 2 Seas Motorsport co-owner, said: “They are both extremely quick, proven race winners and I think they are going to be a tough pair to beat.”
● Former Scottish Mini ace Josh Hislop has set his sights on the Ginetta GT4 Supercup after agreeing a deal with Team Hard. The young star, from Portlethen, near Aberdeen, has enjoyed success in a Ginetta in the GT5 Challenge.
He said: “Stepping up to GT4 level has been my aim for a while and I’m over the moon that we’ve been able to make it happen. I can’t wait to jump in the car for round one at Silverstone.”
