These are the electric moments that football crowds erupted in Manchester as England scored SIX goals in their first World Cup game against Iran. Fans flocked to special fan zones in the city centre, including at Depot Mayfield and Love Factory to watch the match on the big screen.
The Three Lions took on Iran on Monday, who have never been able to qualify for the knockout stages in their five previous attempts, including at the last two finals. England previously made it all the way to the semi-finals in Russia 2018 and will be hoping to go all the way this time.
In a monumental victory at full time, England won 6-2 against Iran. The Manchester Evening News captured all of the amazing moments fans were sent into a frenzy at 'Road to Victory' at Mayfield Depot on Monday (November 21).
Depot Mayfield began filling up from before kick off at 1pm, with the mammoth fan zone hosting huge crowds, complete with tables and a big screen. The fan park has spaces for as many as 6,000 people to watch the world cup this Winter and features three rooms, including two standing rooms, a VIP area with space for 200 guests and up to 1,800 seated in the main room .
Drinks were thrown in the air as excited fans jumped for joy, as 19-year-old Jude Bellingham directed a header into the corner to give England the first goal of the game. Similar scenes followed as Bukayo Saka fired the second goal against Iran.
The atmosphere was palpable - fans hugged each other and chanted in Manchester as the tension continued to build throughout the match. At half time, England were leading 3-0 to Iran, after Raheem Sterling fired the third goal.
The Manchester Evening News captured the eruptions and emotions at half time, with spirits flying high into the second half. There were similar scenes as Arsenal's Saka launched into the fourth goal, before Marcus Rashford scored the fifth just seconds after coming on. Jack Grealish shortly followed with the sixth goal.
At the end of the game, England recorded their biggest ever victory in an opening match at a major tournament, scoring six goals in a major tournament game for just the second time in their history. England will now go on to take USA on Friday (November 25).
