DeMeco Ryans was enthusiastic when the news became official.
The former Houston Texans 2006 second-round linebacker, who played 86 games with the club through the 2011 season, shared a video message via the Texans’ official social media channels about taking the job.
“H-Town, I’m back,” Ryans said. “It’s good to be home. Go Texans!”
Ryans becomes the youngest coach in team history at 38 years old. Houston also hires their first former player to be coach. The two-time Pro Bowler and former 2006 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year also becomes the third full-time coach in franchise history to have a defensive background. Dom Capers (2002-05) and Lovie Smith (2022) were the other two.
