Steve Avila played every snap at left guard last season but he’ll be lining up at an entirely new position this year. After the Rams signed Jonah Jackson in free agency, Avila will move to center – a position he played in college.
Changing positions after only one season is tough for any player, but the responsibilities that come with playing center make it even more difficult.
The Rams mic’d up Avila for a recent training camp practice, which gives fans a glimpse into how key and critical the center is on offense. He has to identify blitzers and communicate constantly with his fellow linemen to ensure the play is blocked properly.
In addition to his blocking skills, Avila also showed off his dancing ability in the video, always having fun even in the heat of camp competition.
