Tennessee Titans quarterback Ryan Tannehill was up against it during the Week 5 game against the Washington Commanders.
The Titans signal-caller was constantly under pressure and was hit 13 times, five of which were sacks. Somehow, Tannehill was still able to throw for 181 yards and a touchdown, helping to lead Tennessee to its third straight win.
After the game, head coach Mike Vrabel rightly commended Tannehill’s toughness, something we’ve seen time and time as he’s gotten abused behind some bad offensive lines during his tenure in Nashville.
“His toughness is certainly appreciated — I appreciate it, and I know the football team appreciates it,” Vrabel said on Monday, per Jim Wyatt of Titans Online. “To be able to stand in there and get hit and try and work through his progressions and take care of the football and all those things. I think the more times the quarterback gets hit in this league, the more chances you have for error. So we have to work on that and we have to improve that. But it’s been great that he’s been able to exhibit that kind of toughness and make plays to help us win.”
With a lot of pressure comes improbable completions. Here are the top three from Week 5, per the team:

Tannehill’s toughness doesn’t just extend to the abuse he has survived with shoddy offensive line play in three-plus seasons. The veteran quarterback has also shown he isn’t afraid to lower his shoulder and take a hit in order to pick up more yards.
As we said earlier this week, there are a lot of things you can question about Tannehill, but his toughness isn’t one of them.
