Welcome to the party, Rashid Shaheed. The New Orleans Saints wide receiver caught a 59-yard touchdown pass from Derek Carr to score the NFL’s first touchdown on Sunday, which you can see here. It was the longest touchdown pass Carr had thrown since the 2021 season.
And that’s not all. This was the first opening-drive touchdown the Saints offense has scored since the 2018 season. Talk about getting a monkey off your back.
It’s a strong debut for Klint Kubiak’s offense. The Saints used motion on all five plays during their opening drive, and in this moment he called a double move for Shaheed to help him get open against the Carolina secondary. Credit the receiver for running a good route and the quarterback for stepping up under pressure to make a great throw. Now let’s see if they can keep it up through a long season.
