Watch pilot abort landing as aircraft is hit by severe Storm Malik winds

Footage showing a skilled pilot wrestling with his aircraft while attempting to land in this weekend's severe winds has been shared online.

The pilot of the Jet2 Boeing 737 is forced to abort the landing at Manchester Airport during Storm Malik, reports the MEN.

The dramatic incident was captured by an aviation enthusiast who uploaded the video to YouTube.

Storm Malik brought winds of up to 70mph on Saturday and as the video shows aircraft were being buffeted in the air by the crosswind gales.

The two-minute clip - on AviationUpclose - captures aplane being pushed from side to side with its landing gear fully engaged above the airport's runway ahead of an anticipated landing.

The pilot manages to touch down two wheels, but quickly takes off again.

The aircraft - believed to be a flight from Malaga in Spain - was reportedly forced to divert to East Midlands Airport - after a second failed attempt to land at Manchester following the 'go around', a common manoeuvre.

Pilots are often forced to use the procedure if they experience a late, sudden gust of wind, which conditions such as Saturday's appeared to bring.

AviationUpclose said on Twitter: "Windshear go around followed by a heavy bounced touch and go for this Jet2 737 at Manchester Airport during Storm Malik.

"The aircraft diverted to East Midlands."
