Nottingham Forest Edge Past Tractor Boys In Cagey Affair
Ipswich Town travelled to the Midlands in hopes of making it three matches without defeat after beating Spurs and drawing to Manchester United.
Forest were looking to get back to the form that saw them sit in the top four of the Premier League after two straight defeats to Newcastle and Arsenal.
The match got off to a flying start with Nottingham Forest coming close to opening the scoring and Ipswich being a threat on the counter.
Cameron Burgess came close to breaking the deadlock for the Tractor Boys, as his header was cleared off the line by Ola Aina.
Forest also had a shot cleared off the goal line, as Sammie Szmodics stopped Morgan Gibbs-White from putting the hosts ahead.
Despite a plethora of chances and end-to-end action, neither side could find the back of the net leaving the match level at half-time.
Just three minutes into the second-half Nottingham Forest took the lead, as Chris Wood converted from the penalty-spot after Sammie Szmodics tripped Jota Sliva.
The goal swung the momentum in Forest’s favour and they came close to doubling their lead as Murillo’s header was miraculously saved by Arijanet Muric.
Ipswich failed to create any clear cut chances for the majority of the second-half and McKenna made a series of substitutions to try and claw some momentum back.
However, despite seven minutes of additional time Ipswich could find that all-important leveller and Forest held on to all three points.
