A Newcastle fan dusted off the disappointment of his side losing at Wembley on Sunday to belt out a song full of optimism as he belted out Things Can Only Get Better in front of a packed bar in the Toon.
While, judging by the epic scenes at Trafalgar Square on Saturday night, it seemed like the whole of Newcastle had gone to London, as the capital witnessed a Geordie takeover and Wembley was a sea of black and white for the Carabao Cup final on Sunday, there was still plenty of locals left in the city to cheer on the Magpies against Manchester United.
As well as two packed out fan zones at Northumbria University and NX, pubs and bars across the city centre were full to the brim as fans sadly saw Eddie Howe's team suffer a 2-0 defeat to their opponents.

However, rather than going straight home and calling it a night, many NUFC fans, some of whom sensibly thought ahead by booking Monday off, continued their festivities into the night.
Cosy Joes on the Groat Market opened its doors for a post-match party and, although there wasn't a trophy to celebrate, people were still in the mood to keep the night going, including one gent who rallied everyone watching the karaoke on the top floor, b y taking to the mic to belt out Things Can Only Get Better, the track D;Ream took to the top of the charts in 1994, before it became an anthem for the Labour party's successful election campaign three years later.
Wearing his NUFC top, he performed the track with real gusto, prompting those around him to join in. A staff member at Cosy's told ChronicleLive it was "a really good night" and, as for the man who got up and sang, we salute your positive attitude sir!
