The Denver Broncos finalized a five-year contract with coach Sean Payton on Friday evening and the team introduced him as their new head coach at their UCHealth Training Center on Monday morning.
The full press conference can be watched in the above video.
Payton, 59, has not coached with the New Orleans Saints since 2021, but he still had two years left on his contract. Because he was still under contract with the Saints, the Broncos had to complete a trade with New Orleans before hiring the coach.
The trade of draft picks won’t become official until the new league year begins in March, but Payton was allowed to be hired before then. Payton arrives in Denver with 24 years of coaching experience in the NFL. His resume includes a Super Bowl win, a. 624 win percentage that is tied for 22nd-best in NFL history, and three NFC title game appearances.
With the Broncos, Payton will aim to turn around a franchise that has not returned to the playoffs since winning Super Bowl 50 in 2015.
