Lamar Jackson and Derrick Henry are two of the most athletic and gifted athletes in NFL history.
They’re both really smart players, and the game-winning play from Week 6 proves that. During the latest episode of Wired, the Ravens media and video team did a great job of highlighting a mic-‘d-up Jackson and Henry talking through the final play.
The video and Sarah Ellison’s transcripts clearly show that Henry wanted the football on third down and one. Rather than the apparent play, Jackson convinces Henry to roll with a play fake to the run, and Jackson bootlegs out to his left, where he’d run for a first down, sealing the game.
Derrick Henry: “Hey, tell ’em to call [playcall].”
Lamar Jackson: “Nah, I’m gonna go [playcall], but Ima keep it from you.”
Henry: “Alright, it’s gotta be … they flying up field, just be careful.”
Lamar: Inaudible
Henry: “Ok, ok. Alright.”

It was the right call for Jackson, as Henry battered the Commanders for 132 rushing yards, and their defenders keyed in on the running back on that final play.
