Kevin O’Connell didn’t leave anyone choking on his smoke from his 40-yard dash at the 2008 NFL Combine, but if you listen close enough, you can hear a few coughs.
In anticipation of the 2022 NFL Combine, the old 40-yard dash video featuring the Minnesota Vikings head coach resurfaced on Monday.
O’Connell, a quarterback prospect out of San Diego State at the time, posted a 4.61 time at the inaugural event, which included other noteworthy quarterbacks such as Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco.
He ended up being selected by the New England Patriots in the third round of the 2008 NFL Draft with the No. 94 overall pick.

There was never a chance of O’Connell actually starting with some guy named Tom Brady ahead of him.
The greatest quarterback of all time isn’t giving an inch when it comes to skills on the football field, but O’Connell had him in the speed department—at the very least.
