NFL preseason play kicked off on Saturday for former Ohio State and current Chicago Bears quarterback Justin Fields, who took on the Tennessee Titans.
After a strong second half of the season last year and the Bears’ addition of D.J. Moore at wide receiver in a trade with the Panthers, the expectation is for Fields to take a big leap in his third season in the NFL.
It’s hard to take much from the preseason but it’s a good sign for the Bears’ offense and Fields moving forward that they scored touchdowns on both drives that the former Heisman finalist was on the field for.
On the first drive Fields threw a screen pass to his new star receiving threat, and he took it 62 yards for a touchdown on his first touch in a Bears uniform. Welcome to Chicago Moore.

On the second drive, Fields alluded pressure and found Khalil Herbert in the flat and he did the rest, stumblin’, bumblin’ fumblin’ 56 yards for a touchdown.

You don’t always have to have long shots down the field for explosive plays in the passing game, and it maybe the Bears will be mixing in some short passes with some new weapons to help open things up more vertically.
So far, so good, with a bunch of caveats all over a preseason performance.
