Former Rangers loanee James Sands was involved in a furious bust-up with New York City FC fans as the captain confronted angry punters as his side’s form continues to nosedive.
The skipper, who returned across the Big Pond after his spell at Ibrox was cut short when Michael Beale opted not to take up the club’s option to sign him permanently, was caught on video in a heated exchange with fans in the stand following a 3-1 defeat at home to Cincinnati.
A video clip was uploaded to social media showing his reaction to supporters who turned on Sands and his beleaguered team-mates who haven’t won in a month in the MLS and have slumped to six defeats in their last seven games. Sands snapped when hit with stinging criticism and said: "Don't say we don't care, that's f***ing disrespectful.” At the start of the exchange one fan said: "We're never going to leave, bro.
"But this, what you guys are doing it's not enough. Speak up, do something about it, we're sick and tired of this. We don't want to be suffering through this.We don’t lose at home, man.” Another added: "We don't see that effort, James."
Sands defended his team-mates and said: "Do you think anyone is happy with that? Just listen to me. No one out there is happy with that. We're f***ing working, okay?"
The fan continued: ”I've been following since academy, bro. Do you know how much this means to me? And I know how much this means to you I want you guys to understand that we're not here just for the fun of it, right?"
